GENERAL PURPOSE Lead the identification, prioritization, and implementation of continuous improvement projects in our Metal Powder Coat Finishing and Assembly area. Develop sustainable improvements through engagement of the team utilizing servant leadership, technical knowledge, and continuous improvement tools to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost initiatives. Utilize lean concepts including standardized work, problem solving methodologies, material handling and planning, and kaizen activities. Implement engineering change notices and work closely with quality and product development to implement customer requests, new product launches. Manage capital projects to resource new product lines, equipment needs and facilitate SQDC improvement initiatives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Applies basic supply chain cost, value stream capabilities and economic principles Applies learned engineering skills to work assignments Applies problem solving skills and executes solutions to problems independently Coaches basic engineering tasks to others Completes engineering tasks within oversight of leadership Follows engineering and quality processes Managing Capital Procurement projects for Manufacturing line updates and installations Seeks and receives mentoring from senior level and engineering leadership Seeks approval of budget owner using appropriate request process Documents activities and progress; showing work and assumptions ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Apply lean manufacturing strategies and principles to work cells and processes Conduct quality reviews of defect anomalies, process failures, and customer claims Document design changes to ensure all parts and drawings meat BOM requirements Initiate and implement process related improvements to the production lines Support financial targets and cost reduction initiatives during new product planning, launch, and post-launch phases Lead powder coat paint line process improvements and changes to ensure safety, product quality, and reduce cost of materials and manufacturing Provide technical and advisory support to Manufacturing, Quality, Product and People Development and Production Operations Participate in Design for Manufacturability processes for new and existing products Work with product development, quality, and manufacturing to implement engineering change notices EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Years Of Experience: 2 to 5 years' experience preferred Level of Education: 2- or 4-year technical degree - Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Industrial Engineer Degree or equivalent Sound understanding of and a minimum of 3 years of experience utilizing Lean and Continuous Improvement techniques and methodologies in the areas of Standardized Work, Kaizen, Problem-Solving, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Process Flow, TPM, Jidoka, SMED, etc. Knowledge of manufacturing processes, powder coat paint, metal materials, semi-automated and automated equipment will be a plus Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and translate collected information into actionable solutions Computer skills - advance skill in MS Office including MS Excel, Words, Outlook, Project, and PowerPoint. Ability to utilize drawing and fabrication software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent a plus Ability to build business cases for capital expenditure and manage equipment spec and installation projects Ability to manage, prioritize and balance multiple projects PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
