Thomas Jefferson University seeks a visionary and engaging academic physician leader to serve as the next Chair of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology in its Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC), located in the heart of Center City, Philadelphia. The successful candidate will also serve as the System Leader for OB/GYN at Jefferson Health a clinical footprint that spans southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey and encompasses a total of 10 Labor & Delivery units and 53 outpatient practice locations staffed by 160 employed OB/GYN physicians (academic and community).

The Department Chair will directly oversee the academic department s 33 full-time faculty physicians and will ensure exceptional care is provided at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, which sees approximately 3,000 deliveries each year, and the Department s 4 outpatient practice locations. The Chair will be a relationship-based leader capable of empowering faculty, promoting accountability, and developing future leaders to advance the Department s residency and fellowship programs and expand its research portfolio, ensuring the Department's ability to recruit an exceptional and diverse faculty. Reporting to the Dean of Sidney Kimmel Medical College, the Chair will direct the Department s programs to ensure an outstanding education, clinical training, and research opportunities for its residents and fellows, and students at the Medical College. The Chair will be responsible for faculty development and mentoring toward academic advancement through fostering opportunities for impactful patient-centered research with a focus on interdisciplinary and collaborative team-based scholarship.

As the System Leader, the successful candidate will strategically lead the OB/GYN service line s evolution determining how Jefferson delivers care, educates, and promotes health equity in strategic and sustainable ways that serve the needs of its patients, learners, and communities. Working closely with the regional OB/GYN leadership team of Jefferson s community-based hospitals and outpatient sites of care, the System Leader will collaboratively drive initiatives to harmonize the delivery of Obstetrics & Gynecology services across the entire Jefferson Health system. Reporting to the President of the Jefferson Medical Group at Jefferson Health, the System Leader will be responsible for developing strategies, overseeing implementation, and driving the service line s progress towards Jefferson s goal of becoming a fully integrated academic health system. Committed to a strategy of continuous performance improvement and innovation, the System Leader will optimize and standardize care delivery across all sites, enhancing clinical quality and safety for a consistent patient experience and improved outcomes.

• A clinical leader with experience working across blended practice models, including academic, community, and contractually-aligned physicians.
• An emotionally intelligent leader skilled at facilitating shared understanding through open and authentic communication and their ability to ask questions, listen, and incorporate ideas from all levels of the organization.
• A leader capable of galvanizing diverse perspectives and priorities towards a transformational and shared vision for OB/GYN across Jeerson Health. An effective strategist who can translate organizational vision into operational goals and mobilize progress.
• A relationship-based leader skilled at fostering engagement and collaboration, vertically and horizontally, across a large, matrixed health system with shared decision-making. Adept at leading through influence and coalescing support around win-win relationships. A track record of building and leading inclusive clinical teams across multiple hospitals and successfully driving system-wide performance initiatives to advance the integration of care delivery. Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience in clinical operations, ideally gained across a large academic health system.
  • A practicing academic physician with a career trajectory showing increasing levels of administrative responsibilities, ideally culminating in serving as Chair, Vice Chair, System Chief or another relevant role for a Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
  • A strong record of championing excellence in clinical quality, program development, cultivating academic-clinical partnerships, facilitating the expansion of clinical research opportunities, and supporting the growth, development and mentorship of faculty, physicians, trainees, and students .
  • Experience with the operational and financial management aspects of administering a department, including prior responsibilities for budget management, strategic planning, and resource management.
  • A record of scholarship and academic accomplishments which merits appointment at the rank of associate or full professor at Sidney Kimmel Medical College.
  • An MD/DO or equivalent international degree, board certification in Obstetrics & Gynecology , and be eligible for /possess an unrestricted license to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Click here for the full, comprehensive position description.
